What is your craft?

silversmithing

Why do you do your craft?

I have always had to keep my hands busy and silversmithing comes naturally to me.  I love manipulating hard, flat sheet metal into something organically beautiful.

What are your sources of inspiration?

I am inspired by the natural world…flowers, fungi, coral reefs, succulents etc.  I like to bring attention to all the small things that most people pass by on a daily basis.

What is your favorite Chicago haunt?

Green Tea in Lincoln Park (they have the best sushi for the price) and the Rocking Horse in Logan Square (they have a good beer selection and its in my hood)

What is your favorite beverage?

I like coffee in the morning and then I drink water.  At night I like to enjoy a nice glass of wine.

Where do you buy your favorite beverage?

New Wave has good coffee.

How did you come up with your business name?

It’s my full name.

What is it’s significance?

I think it’s memorable and unique.  There’s not a lot of people out there named Moira K. Lime and I wanted it to keep the business a part of me.

What is your weapon of choice?

My torch and my pliers

What would you be doing otherwise?

Probably teaching.  One day I’d love to have my own storefront to showcase my work along side other handpicked artists with a workshop in the back where I can teach and create…one day.

Do you have any advice for other crafters?

Be persistent, work hard, do what makes YOU happy and be true to yourself.  Being an artist/crafter is not an easy profession financially or mentally so you have to be up for a challenge!
